Dec 22

 Today we:  cleaned up our classroom  watched a movie! As a special treat we watched The Polar Express  drew the grinch for our guided drawing  did silent reading  used the boom-whackers to play Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman  played mission impossible in gym  found out we have been at school for 73 day!  Reminder: No school tomorrow. Have a wonderful Winter Break! I can't wait to hear about all the fun and exciting things you do!

 Today we:  made a maze for a snowball in Makerspace and had the challenge of getting our snowball through without using our hands  drew a gingerbread house  wrote about what we would like do over break or what we want for Christmas  gathered data to find out if our classmates like something of our choice (i.e. do you like dogs?)  learned a new sound in language arts "ay" like stay and play  played mission impossible again  watched Frosty the Snowman to end our day!  talked about if we would rather go snow tubbing or snowboarding  Reminder:  tomorrow is PJ day to celebrate our last day of class before Winter Break!  if you have not returned your books this week, please bring them tomorrow

Dec 19

 Today we:  played mission impossible (obstacle course) in gym  learned about strategies we can use to help us stay in green zone or get back to green zone if we find ourselves in another zone  drew a sleigh for guided drawing  had indoor recess because of the cold (we might benefit from some extra movement and play at home!)  found out we have been at school for 70 days! did calendar and found out there are only two more days until winter! (even though it feels like winter today 😅) learned 2 new heart words with lazy King Ed... live and give! played a board game and collected data to track how often we landed on a snowman, snowflake or snowball  talked about what we did over the weekend for question of the day  wrote about what we did over the weekend  practice quite reading  Tomorrow is festive sweater day (or festive clothes!) Thursday is PJ day and last day of school before before winter break 

Dec 16

 Today we:  played 'freedom frenzy' where we played Gaga ball and then got to pick from 3 other stations where we could play different games  listened to another social studies presentation  noticed we have been at school for 69 days!  went outside for Field Study Friday and sketched pictures of what we saw  had a special guest! Mr. Scout came and told us a story of the buffalo and how Indigenous people lived before the buffalo and the story of when the buffalo came. He also taught us some words in Blackfoot!  wrote 'I can' sentences and did some reading Reminder for next week  Monday is "Stop, Drop and Carol" where we will be singing songs at school  Tuesday is festive sweater day  Next week we will be returning our library books and will take new books out in January. Please make sure you bring your book back to school next week (it can be returned any day next week!)  Thursday is PJ day and the last day of school before winter break 

Dec 15

 Today we:  did a science experiment where we tried to match the mystery colour by mixing different amounts of two colours (our mystery colour was a green so we mixed blue and yellow!)  played a 'snowball battle' game  talked about our favourite desserts for question of the day (did you know that it is national cupcake day!?)  collected data in math by asking our classmates what their favourite animals are made winter and Christmas challenges in Makerspace drew a penguin for guided drawing  practice individual reading  learned 2 new heart words: make and take  counted to 68 and have been in school for 68 days! worked on heggerty questions!  Next week important dates  On the 20th we have festive sweater day  on the 22th we have our last day of school and PJ day!

Dec 14

 Today we: played "The Grinch" in gym where we had to find the hidden gifts  learned a new lively letter which was 'ch' like chain, cherry and cheese or end in ch like lunch, munch, bunch  sorted emotions into the different zones of regulation  wrote "I can" sentences  learned 'my' for our new heart word  talked about if we would rather have outdoor recess or indoor recess for question of the day  played with the boom wakers to play Jingle Bells  drew Elsa for our guided drawing  gather data about what are our classmate's favourite colour  we had library  Tomorrow is festive hat and headwear day! We are also going to do a painting experiment so please make sure to wear clothes that are safe in case we accidentally get paint on them. 

Dec 13

 Today we:  talked about how we like to drink our hot chocolate for national cocoa day!  played Santa's workshop in gym  we did a demo of a colour experiment where we tried to match a colour. On Thursday students will get to do their own mystery colour experiment (please wear clothes that are ok if we accidentally get some paint on them)  had a new lively letter 'sh' like shut, shark and shelter  collected data and used a chart to count how many objects were at a table  drew a house that we could decorate with decorations wrote about our weekends in writing read silently  we learned two new sight words (come and some)  Reminders:  Tomorrow is library day  Thursday is fest hat or headwear day!  please check your child's backpack to see if they might have accidentally brought home belongings that don't belong to them (hat, mitts, gloves) 

Dec 12

Today we Mrs. Read shared some news with us! She is having a baby! Her baby is coming in June so she will be with us for most of the school year  we started to talked about the 4 different zones of regulation (red, blue, green, yellow) and what emotions are in each zone  in gym we played a game called "Santa's Workshop" with the 'sleighs' that we wheeled to go get toys! We used our legs and hands to help us move the 'sleigh'  our guided drawing was a snow-globe  we learned a new lively letter which was 'ng' like the word song, king, lung our number of the day was 17  in math we practiced collecting data but making a chart to help us count and gather data! we did some reading practice and we wrote a sentence about our weekends on the white boards  Tomorrow is festive sock day! 

Dec 9

 Today we:  talked about what we are going to do this week (or what we would like to do this weekend) during question of the day  we read a story about spread kindness and light and talked about things we could wish others to spread kindness spread kindness by writing messages and making cards that we will give to seniors living in a seniors home!  in gym we played more soccer  continued writing 'I like' sentences  found out we have been in school for 64 days!  did silent reading practice  Reminders:  Next week we have festive sock day (Tuesday Dec 13) and festive hat or headwear day (Thursday Dec 15) 

Dec 8

 Today we:  in science we used paint to mix colours with white and see what colours they made (we learned that if you mixed a colour with a white it makes a colour more light! If you add more white it turns lighter!)  in gym we played soccer games!  our guided drawing was a ginger bread man our number of the day was 15 (ask me: is 15 an odd or even number)  we wrote sentences about things that we like or like to do our question of the day was 'what is your favourite game?' in math today we use data to help fill in graphs (our new unit!)  our new lively letter was "wh" (like what, when, where)  our new heart word today was 'look'  in calendar we learned that we have been in school for 63 days!

Dec 06

 Today we:  talked about where we would like to go for vacation  played soccer in gym and practiced kicking into a net  our number of the day was 13  we reviewed even and odd numbers and started to count by 2 have been in school for 61 days!  we continued writing about what we like in English  in health, we read "Colour Monster" and wrote about what happens when we feel different emotions (i.e When I am sad I cry. When I am mad I yell.)  our guided drawing was a mug with hot chocolate  our new lively letter was the noisy 'th' sound like that, this, them our new heart word was 'from' Thursday is dress is red and/or green If you are looking to practice something at home today, say a word and have your child chop all the sounds they hear in the word (i.e 'apple' a-p-l, 'mad' m-a-d) 

Dec 5

 Today we: we talked about our weekends for question of the day  we learned a new lively letter: "th" (math, think, thin, moth)  we had recess outside! (finally!) please make sure to send your child with warm outdoor clothes in gym we practiced kicking into a net we wrote sentences about emotions and about what we like  our number of the day was 12 and we added a new part to our number of the day routine which was identifying if the number is even or odd  in calendar we found out we have been in school for 60 days!  in math we played 'headbands' where we asked questions about the number on our card to help us guess what they number is  Reminder:  - Tomorrow is "dress like you are going on vacation" -Thursday is "wear red and/or green" day!  In student's backpacks you will find our kindness bingo sheet that we made last week! Students can try to get a bingo or fill out the whole sheet and then bring it back to school for a kindness certificate a

Dec 02

 Today we: we did a science experiment where we mixed red, blue and yellow to see what colours they make! We all had scientist jobs that we traded throughout our experiment to really work like scientists! Our question of the day was "what are you going to do this weekend?" In gym we practiced kicking and played the same game as yesterday We practiced writing sentences in English  In calendar we figured out we have been in school for 59 days!  We ended our day with our closing circle  Reminder:  - Tuesday is "Dress like you are going on vacation" spirit day!

 Today we:  talked about what we like to do in December for question of the day  our number of the day was 13 in gym we played a game where we kick a ball to knock over the bowling pins  we did calendar and started a new month! We have also been at school for 58 days In math we worked on finding the missing element of a pattern Our guided drawing was a reindeer (Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer)! We practiced adding detail and labeling our picture when we were done  talked about different acts of kindness we can do at school and at home and created a bingo sheet  we continued with our social studies presentations  our new heart word was 'said' Reminder:  - tomorrow we are going to do a science experiment with food colouring to learn about mixing colours. Please wear dark clothes or clothes that are ok in case we accidentally spill
